I have lived in Chiang Mai for many years. The downtown is the bottom of the chain, where the park and empress are the better hotels.

tourists have a nack for being stupid in chiang mai. Also, CM has many excellent hospitals, such as “Chiang Mai Ram.” Medical care here is very cheap, and outstanding. Food is prepared on the street, on sidewalks, etc. This is the way everybody eats here. Malintent is not usually on the parts of the Thai, although they do look at all white foreigners as fruit to be peeled (a literal translation of “farang.”) A farang is actually a guava. But disease is everywhere, and is airborn, and the hotel they selected is not actually in the best neighborhood. tourists!
